Challenging Slate Awaits Cowgirl Golf To Open Robertson Era
August 14, 2019 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER – The Greg Robertson era of Oklahoma State women's golf begins this fall with a challenging slate of events and the goal of returning to the NCAA Championships for the 22nd time in program history.
In all, OSU will travel to seven different states and Puerto Rico before returning to Dallas for the 2020 Big 12 Championship at the Dallas Athletic Club on April 24-26.
The Cowgirls will begin the season on Sept. 9 at the Trinity Forest Invitational, which is held at the home of the PGA Tour's Byron Nelson Invitational. This will be OSU's first time to play at Trinity Forest Golf Club, which is a links-style course that opened in 2016.
This will be OSU's ninth straight season to play in the Windy City Collegiate Classic (Sept. 30-Oct. 1), which the Cowgirls won in 2011. The Windy City is hosted by Northwestern University at the Glenview Club in Golf, Illinois.
A trip to Austin, Texas will have the Cowgirls playing in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational (Oct. 12-13) for the 28th time in program history, but for the first time since 2011. OSU claimed Betsy Rawls team titles in 2003 and 1987.
The Landfall Tradition rounds out the fall campaign, and is the site of some recent OSU lore. Caroline Hedwall won the 2010 NCAA individual national championship at the Country Club of Landfall thanks to a 12-under par performance. Also, the Cowgirls won the 2012 Landfall Tradition championship.
The spring season will tee off at the UCF Challenge (Feb. 2-4) in Orlando, Florida before the Cowgirls head to the Caribbean for the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 9-11), which has hosted OSU six times since 2003.
OSU will take a second trip to the Sunshine state for the Hurricane Invitational (March 2-3) in Coral Gables before traveling to John's Island, South Carolina for the Briar's Creek Invitational for the first time in school history.
The Cowgirls will head to S.E.C. country for their final two regular season events. The Evans Derby Experience (March 27-29) will take OSU back to Auburn, Alabama for the first time since the 2013 NCAA Regionals, while The Grove Cup will be Oklahoma State's first event in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Big 12 Championships are back at the Dallas Athletic Club, a course OSU has tasted success at before. The Cowgirls finished second at the 2018 Big 12 Championships, which was held at the Jack Nicklaus designed course. OSU was also a regular participant at the SMU/DAC Invitational, and has won the event in three of its four trips to Dallas since 2013.
For the next three seasons, the NCAA Championships will be held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 2020 championships will be played from May 22-27.
