Iconic Performances, Proud History For Cowgirl Golf At Solheim Cup
August 13, 2019 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's golfers have a proud history at the Solheim Cup that dates back to Val Skinner in 1996 and continues through the 2019 showdown in Gleneagles, Scotland.
Cowgirls have racked up an impressive 23-7-9 (.679) combined record in foursome, fourball and singles play at the Solheim Cup, and have been a part of team victories in 1996, 2011 and 2013.
What's more, Oklahoma State golfers have provided some of the event's defining moments. In 2013, Caroline Hedwall completed a perfect 5-0-0 week at the Colorado Golf Club with 4-foot birdie putt to defeat Michelle Wie and seal a victory for the Europeans.
Hedwall followed up that performance by sealing five points for Europe in 2013, which is still the Solheim Cup record. That year, Hedwall and Caroline Masson teamed up twice in fourball play and came away with a pair of wins to help Europe retain the trophy.
Masson and Hedwall will once again join forces for the European team at the 2019 Solheim Cup, which will take place in Scotland from Sept. 12-15. It will be the fourth appearance at the event for both Hedwall and Masson.
