Likekele, USA Basketball Advance To FIBA U19 Gold Medal Game

HERAKLION, Greece – Oklahoma State guard Isaac Likekele scored 11 points and added three rebounds to help USA Basketball take down Lithuania, 102-67, and advance to the gold-medal game at the FIBA U19 World Cup.
The Americans (6-0) will now face Mali (5-1) in the final at 12:30 p.m. CT on Sunday on ESPN+. First contested in 1979, USA Basketball is playing for its seventh FIBA U19 World Cup title, and its first since 2015. No other country has more than one FIBA U19 championship.
Likekele is looking to become the fourth Cowboy to win a gold medal with USA Basketball at the FIBA U19 World Cup, joining Matt Clark (1979), Marcus Smart (2013) and Jawun Evans (2015). Oklahoma State representatives have combined for 22 gold medals in international competitions for USA Basketball.
Lithuania (3-3) employed a potent zone defense that kept the Americans off balance at times. The USA shot 45.5 percent from the floor, but countered with a 23-4 edge in second-chance points and a 35-11 advantage in fast-break points to pick up the victory.
Likekele was 5-of-9 from the floor and the Americans were +16 points with the Cowboy sophomore on the floor. For the week he is averaging 8.3 points, 3.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game on 52.5 percent shooting.
