Big 12/SEC Challenge Pits OSU Against Texas A&M For 50th Time
July 25, 2019 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State basketball team will rekindle an old Big 12 rivalry with a trip to Texas A&M for the 2020 Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 25.
This will be the 50th meeting between the Cowboys and Aggies in a series that dates back to 1918. OSU is 31-18 overall against Texas A&M, including an 11-10 mark in College Station, Texas. The No. 16 ranked Aggies took the last meeting, 72-55, at the 2018 Legends Classic in Brooklyn, New York.
Buzz Williams, a 1994 graduate of Oklahoma City University, was named the head coach at Texas A&M in April after four consecutive 20-win seasons at Virginia Tech. A veteran of eight NCAA Tournament appearances as a head coach, Williams takes over an Aggies squad coming off a 14-18 season.
ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise the Big 12/SEC Challenge, with ESPN's College GameDay originating from one of the sites. Tipoff times will be announced at a later date.
With a 4-1-1 record, the Big 12 has dominated the seventh-annual Big 12/SEC Challenge. Big 12 teams are 35-25 (.583) in the Challenge with wins in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019. The SEC's only victory came in 2018 after the leagues tied in 2017.
OSU is 4-2 overall and 1-2 on the road in the Challenge. Last season, Mike Boynton coached the Cowboys to a 74-70 win over his alma-mater, South Carolina, in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowboys will feature a roster that returns all five starters and 78 percent of its scoring, and will be joined by a signing class unanimously ranked among the nation's top-25.
Cowboy basketball season tickets start at just $150 and are on sale now. Visit okstate.com/tickets or text/call 877-ALL-4-OSU for more information.
