Former Cowboy Lucas Gerch Wins Wilhelmsöhe Open

STILLWATER – Lucas Gerch, former Cowboy standout, won the Wilhelmshöhe Open this past weekend in Kassel, Germany.
Gerch entered the tournament as a seven seed and won five main draw matches on his way to being crowned the tournament champion; he defeated the fifth-seeded Orlando Luz in the first round.
In his four years as a Cowboy, Gerch continuously etched his name in the Oklahoma State record books. As it currently stands, Gerch is second in career singles wins (81) and fifth in career doubles wins (71) in the Big 12 era.
Gerch also excelled as a student at OSU as he was named an ITA Scholar athlete twice and earned three Academic All-Big 12 selections. The former Cowboy was named Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2016.
One notable opponent Gerch defeated on his way to victory was Matej Vocel. Vocel is entering his junior year at Oklahoma State and was ranked the second-best Freshman/Newcomer for the 2018-19 season by the ITA.
In the championship, Gerch defeated Jules Okala of France 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
