STILLWATER – Dominant singles play pushed the ninth-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team to 8-0 victory over Baylor on Saturday night at the Greenwood Tennis Center, marking the team's 10th-consecutive win.
Â
"Any time you win 10 straight matches in a row, especially with five of those being league matches in this conference, that says a lot," coach Chris Young said. "With the schedule that we play and the conference that we're in… to be able to win so many matches in a row says a lot about the development of this team."
Â
Tamara Arnold notched her 12th doubles victory of the season alongside Bunyawi Thamchaiwat just before shutting out Baylor's Stephanie Adames, 6-0, 6-0. It marked her eighth singles win of the year and kept her undefeated in Big 12 singles play.
Â
No. 117 Thamchaiwat was also dominant, notching a 6-0, 6-2 win over Paula Baranano to clinch the dual for the Cowgirls. Sofia Blanco defeated Bear Dominika Sujova, 6-1, 6-1 just before Thamchaiwat finished her match. The win moved the senior to 12-1 this season in singles play, with her only loss coming via injury forfeit.Â
Â
Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova kept things entertaining with close bouts to close out the contest. Guinart won her first set, 7-5, and gutted out a 6-4 victory in the second. Stresnakova needed the super tiebreak point to get it done against No. 59 Livia Kraus. She defeated the Bear, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0(10-6).Â
Â
Lisa Marie Rioux also notched a dominant win over Jessica Hinojosa, 6-2, 6-2.Â
Â
OSU claimed the doubles point with relative ease as No. 68 Stresnakova and Guinart defeated Baranano, 6-2, following Thamchaiwat and Arnold's 6-0 win over Hinojosa and Katelyn Parker.Â
Â
"This season has really progressed as it should," Young said. "Our team just continues to get better with each match, and we want to be playing our best tennis at the end of the season. We're going to have to play an even better match on Sunday against Texas, who we know is a strong opponent, but I like the way that our girls are developing and the confidence they're showing."Â
Â
The Cowgirls moved to 5-0 in conference play with the victory and completed their seventh sweep of the spring season. OSU plays host to No. 6 Texas at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Greenwood Tennis Center, seeking its second top-10 victory of the season.Â
