Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
Oklahoma State (9-12, 2-6 Big 12) and TCU (15-6, 3-5 Big 12) are both looking to put their last games in the rear-view mirror and get back into the win column with a Wednesday showdown in Fort Worth. Both losses came to teams tied atop the league standings, as the Cowboys fell to Kansas State, 75-57, and the Horned Frogs dropped a 90-64 decision at Baylor. TCU earned its first ever season sweep of OSU last season, but the Cowboys took both meetings in 2016-17. OSU is led by the sharpshooting trio of Cameron McGriff, Lindy Waters and Thomas Dziagwa, while Alex Robinson leads a TCU offense that ranks 14th nationally in assists per game at 17.2. Kouat Noi ranks seventh in the Big 12 with 14.9 points per game.
• On the Air
The matchup will air on ESPNU at 8 p.m. Central. Clay Matvick and Tim Welsh will handle the on-air duties. The webcast is available at ESPN3 or via the WatchESPN app. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call, which can also be heard on TuneIn Radio or on satellite radio Sirius 389.
• Cowboy Quick Hitters
• Of the top-10 free throw shooters in the country, 6-6 Lindy Waters is the only player taller than 6-4.
• Attendance in GIA during Big 12 games is up in 2018-19. With four home games to play, including senior day and a tilt against the rival Jayhawks, OSU is averaging 8,149 fans during Big 12 games, which is up from 8,111 in 2017-18.
• The junior trio of Lindy Waters, Thomas Dziagwa and Cameron McGriff has combined to hit 306 3-pointers on 39.9 percent shooting over their careers.
• The Cowboys are 4-4 in their last eight Big 12 road games dating back to the 2017-18 season.
• Yor Says No!
Yor Anei uses his 6-10 frame and 7'0 1/2" wing span to block 2.0 shots per game, which ranks eighth nationally among freshmen and 38th overall. According to KenPom, he ranks 18th nationally with a block percentage of 11.7. Anei has racked up 42 blocks this year already, which is tied for 22nd in OSU history for a single season. With four more blocks, he would tie Chianti Roberts (1993-97) for 25th in school history in career blocks. On top of those blocks, Anei alters countless additional shots in the paint, and is among the Big 12's most formidable paint presences.
• Waters Making It Rain
Lindy Waters' versatility and shooting ability is the key to the OSU lineup. The 6-6 guard often brings the ball up the floor and initiates the Cowboy offense, and he will see time at every position but center in almost every game. Waters also leads the conference in overall 3-point percentage (.465) and 3-point percentage in Big 12 play (.600). The junior now ranks 20th in school history with 115 career makes from deep, his season mark from 3-point is the third best in OSU history, and his career 41.7 percent clip ranks seventh.
• The Series With TCU
This will be the 32nd all-time meeting between Oklahoma State and TCU, and the 13th as Big 12 foes. The Cowboys are 25-6 all-time against the Horned Frogs and 8-4 against TCU since they joined the league in 2013, but TCU earned its first sweep of OSU last season. In all, the Cowboys are 9-3 all-time in Fort Worth, but the Horned Frogs have taken three of the last four meetings in Schollmaier Arena.
• Leading The Frogs
The Horned Frogs are led by third-year head coach Jamie Dixon, who is a 1987 graduate of TCU and won a pair of Southwest Conference titles as a player under Jim Killingsworth. Dixon returned to Fort Worth after a 13-year stay as the head coach at Pittsburgh, where he was the author of 328 wins, 11 NCAA Tournament bids and three Big East championships. Dixon was the 2009 Naismith National Coach of the Year. In all, Dixon is 5-4 against the Cowboys in his time as a head coach.
• Scouting the Horned Frogs
The Horned Frogs boast an efficient offense that is among the most assist-minded in the country. TCU tallies an assist on 63.1 percent of its made field goals, which ranks sixth in the country according to KenPom. Senior point guard Alex Robinson is the key to that success. He is currently fifth in the nation with 7.3 assists per game, and has six double-doubles on the season, which is tied with OSU's Cameron McGriff for second in the Big 12. KenPom has Robinson's assist rate at 40.4 percent, which ranks ninth in the NCAA.
• DFW Cowboys
The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex has always been a recruiting hotbed for Cowboy basketball players, and this current roster is no different. Cameron McGriff grew up just 20 miles East of Fort Worth in Grand Prairie, Texas and played at South Grand Prairie High School, while Isaac Likekele grew up just 15 miles away in Arlington, Texas and played at Mansfield's Timberview High School. Future Cowboy Avery Anderson, a four-star guard signee for 2019-20, hails from Justin, Texas, which is 30 miles North of Fort Worth.
