Cowboys Drop Close Contest to No. 35 San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Oklahoma State's 32nd-ranked men's tennis team fell to No. 35 San Diego, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at the Hogan Tennis Center.
OSU got on the board first after claiming its second doubles point in three matches. The pairs of Maxim Tybar and Mathieu Scaglia, as well as Brady Draheim and Matej Vocel took the first point of the match for the Cowboys, winning 6-1 and 6-2 respectively.
In singles action, the Toreros took the lead after USD's Joel Gamerov beat Tybar 6-3, 6-2, and Gui Osorio defeated Scaglia 6-3, 6-0.
With the Cowboys trailing 2-1, Emile Hudd knotted the score with a 6-2, 6-2, victory over David Norfeldt.
On court four, the Toreros reclaimed the lead after USD's Nico Borter beat Luke Hammond 6-3, 7-6. Draheim quickly responded for the Cowboys and tied the score at 3-3, dropping Guus Koevermans 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, on court six.
It all came down to court one with Vocel facing off against USD's August Holmgren. Vocel won the first set 6-4 but Holmgren came back to win the following two sets 7-6, 6-4, to clinch the match for the Toreros.
OSU slides to 4-5 in the all-time series against San Diego.
The Cowboys are back in action Thursday at 2 p.m. when they take on the No. 47 California Golden Bears in La Jolla.
