Former Cowboy Julian Cash Wins Doubles Tournament In Egypt

STILLWATER - Former Cowboy and three-time All-American Julian Cash competed in the doubles finals of the Sharm El Sheikh tournament in Egypt on Saturday and was crowned the champion with his partner, Jan Zielinski.
Cash has been battling back from a shoulder surgery over 20 months ago and has had multiple failed comeback attempts. This was the first tournament he has won since the surgery during his senior season at Oklahoma State.
"It was such a relief to be out there competing again without any pain, but to take a doubles title and have a succesful week in singles made it all the sweeter," says Cash. "I'm finally fit and healthy and looking forward to the 2020 season."
Cash has been competing in the tournament throughout the week and made an impressive run to the finals. Cash and Zielinski's first match resulted in a win over Timur Kiyamov and Volodymyr Uzhylovskyi, 6-3, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, the two would go up against the French duo of Kyrian Jacquet and Clement Tabur and would win again, 6-1, 6-4.
The semifinals would result in yet another straight-set win over Riccardo Maiga of Switzerland and Julian Ocleppo of Italy, 6-1, 6-1. In the final match of the doubles draw of the tournament, the former Cowboy and his partner would take another win over a duo out of Poland, Piotr Matuszewski and Daniel Michalski, 7-6(2), 7-6(3).
Cash and Zielinski marched all the way to the finals without dropping a single set as the fourth-seeded duo. In Maiga and Ocleppo, the two upset the second seed in the tournament. In the finals against Matuszewski and Michalski, Cash and Zielinski defeated the third seed.
