Bailey Emerging As Leader As Cowgirl Golf Heads To Austin

STILLWATER – The No. 22 Oklahoma State women's golf team will travel to Austin, Texas, this weekend to participate in the 46th edition of the Betsy Rawls Invitational.
The Cowgirls will face another competitive field of teams headlined by tournament host, No. 4 Texas, and OSU head coach Greg Robertson's former school, No. 6 Kent State.
Over the course of the fall, sophomore Lianna Bailey has emerged as a leader for the Cowgirls due to her maturity and hard work ethic that receives praise from her coaches.
Bailey is not your typical college sophomore. Coming from England, Bailey arrived at Oklahoma State right before her 21st birthday. Now with another birthday approaching in December, Bailey's experience and maturity help the other Cowgirls on and off the course.
"She is one of the hardest workers on the team," Robertson said. "She leads by example and provides that maturity that you want to see from your older players."
Bailey credits her family for instilling the work ethic in her that has helped her take on a leadership role this season.
"My whole family has worked for everything we have," Bailey said. "We take pride in doing our work and doing things the right way. I feel like I can make my parents proud if I do that here, even though they are so far away."
Bailey, who is coming off her best round of the season after carding a 1-under 71 in the last round of the Windy City Collegiate Classic will lead the Cowgirls into Austin this weekend. She will be joined by fellow sophomore Han-Hsuan Yu, the freshmen duo of Isabella Fierro and Hailey Jones and senior Michelle Forsland.
The Cowgirls have competed in the Betsy Rawls Invitational 27 times, but not since the 2011-12 season when they placed fifth out of 16 teams. Texas has won in each of the last two years on its home course. Longhorn sophomore Hailee Cooper won the individual title with a score of 9-under par in 2018.
The Cowgirls will tee off their first of two rounds Saturday morning at the University of Texas Golf Club.
