Closing Play Helps Cowgirl Golf Stay In The Mix At The ANNIKA

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Late rallies and solid play from Stephanie Astrup and Michelle Forsland helped the Oklahoma State women's golf team stay in the mix after 36 holes at the prestigious ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M.
In the first two rounds at the Royal Golf Club the Cowgirls have closed with 12 birdies, two eagles and zero bogies on holes 17 and 18. OSU's combined score of 16-under on the final two holes is five strokes better than the next best team, Southern Cal.
With 18 holes to play on Wednesday, the Cowgirls are at 6-over par 582 and in 10th place in the loaded field that includes nine of the top 10 teams from last season. Duke is atop the team leaderboard at 19-under 557, while Blue Devil junior Ana Belac leads all individuals at 11-under 133.
Astrup posted OSU's first eagle of the year on No. 17 and followed with a birdie on No. 18 to enter the clubhouse with a 2-under 70, which tied her career low round. The sophomore is in a tie for 12th place at 3-under for the event.
Forsland closed with birdies on the final two holes to move into the top 20 on the leaderboard. After posting an even-par 72 on Monday, the junior was 1-under on the day to move into a tie for 20th place.
The lone Cowgirl senior, Chih-Min Chen, birdied three of the last five holes to card a 3-over 75 for the day. Chen is 5-over for the tournament and tied for 45th place with 18 holes to play.
Emma Whitaker recorded the best round of her young Cowgirl career thanks to her first collegiate eagle on No. 18. The sophomore carded a bogey-free back nine and to finish 1-over on the day.
Competing in her first collegiate event, freshman Faith Hopkins is 13-over for the tournament and in a tie for 59th place.
The Cowgirls will close out the ANNIKA Intercollegiate on Wednesday morning.
