LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Inclement weather halted the first round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon, but not before Oklahoma State golfer Stephanie Astrup carded three birdies to jump into a tie for 17th place on the leaderboard.
The sophomore was at even par through 17 holes, including a 2-under on her final 10 holes, before lightning forced the players into the clubhouse. Astrup and the remainder of the field will finish their opening round at 8 a.m. Central before beginning the second round immediately afterward.
As a team, the Cowgirls are tied with Stanford for 10th place at 8-over par at the season's opening event. Duke is atop the team leaderboard at 9-under, while Alabama's Kenzie Wright currently leads all players at 5-under.
The ANNIKA Intercollegiate is consistently one of college golf's toughest tests. This year's field includes nine of the top 10 squads from last season's final national rankings.
Cowgirl Michelle Forsland made the turn at 1-under par and got through 16 holes before the junior was forced indoors at 1-over and in a tie for 28th place.
The lone OSU senior, Chih-Min Chen, used a trio of birdies through 16 holes to enter the rain delay at 3-over and in a tie for 45th.
Sophomore Emma Whitaker and freshman Faith Hopkins were the only Cowgirls to finish the opening round. Whitaker is at 7-over and in a tie for 55th, while Hopkins used birdies on 17 and 18 to jump into a tie for 49th place at 4-over par.
