STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team secured a spot in the NCAA Championship field for the first time since 2016 it was announced tonight.
OSU's selection marks its fifth in seven years under the direction of head coach Jim Littell.
The Cowgirls, who are 20-10 on the year, will be the No. 9 seed in the Kansas City Region. OSU will face eighth-seeded Syracuse (22-8) on March 17 at 2:30 p.m. (CST) in Starkville, Miss. The meeting will be the first between the two schools.
The contest will be televised by ESPN2 with a spot in the second round against the winner between top-seeded Mississippi State and No. 16 seed Nicholls State on the line.

"This is what you play for. This is what the kids play for in the summer and the offseason and Im just thrilled to be back in the NCAA Tournament, " OSU head coach Jim Littell said. "I am really happy for our three seniors who have invested so much in this program."

The Cowgirls return to the field of 64 after competing in the WNIT a year ago. Prior to that, they had made four consecutive NCAA appearances under Littell.
OSU is 10-14 all time in NCAA action, including three Sweet 16 appearances with the most recent coming in 2014.

This year's NCAA appearance extends OSU's school-record string of postseason bids to 12. The Cowgirls made NCAA appearances in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. OSU participated in the WNIT in 2009 and 2011 before winning its first-ever WNIT title in 2012. Its 11th consecutive postseason berth came last year with its WNIT appearance.
