Cowgirls Earn Road Win At Wichita State, 60-47

WICHITA, Kan. — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team defeated Wichita State, 60-47, on Tuesday in Charles Koch Arena to stay undefeated on the season, improving to 5-0.
To open up for the Cowgirls in the first quarter, sophomore Braxtin Miller knocked down back-to-back jumpers and was able to hit a three on the left wing. Miller shot 3-of-4 in the quarter and helped OSU to a 9-7 lead.
The Shockers hit an early three and got a lay in to take the lead at 12-9, but two put back layups from Miller and freshman Kassidy De Lapp combated the early run. Wichita State had two late layups to close the lead in, but Miller hit a turnaround jumper before the buzzer at half to give herself a total of 11 points in the second quarter and the Cowgirls the lead at 29-23 going into half.
OSU outrebounded Wichita State in the first half 22 to 17. Of the 22 rebounds for OSU, 10 of them were at the offensive end and the Cowgirls were able to score eight second-chance points off those boards.
Opening the second half, sophomore Vivian Gray continued the aggression on the glass grabbing an offensive board and laid it back in, but the Shockers answered with a jumper. Miller had her jumper blocked, but senior LaTashia Jones grabbed her 11th board to keep the possession alive where Miller eventually knocked down a 3-pointer.
Redshirt freshman Ja'Mee Asberry got into the mix in the third quarter hitting back-to-back 3-pointers to increase the Cowgirls lead to 43-31. Gray and Miller hit a pair at the charity stripe and to cushion the lead, but a steal and fastbreak layup from the Shockers made it 47-34 in favor of the Cowgirls heading into the fourth quarter.
The Shockers started the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run, but sophomore Jaden Hobbs nearly erased it with back-to-back baskets from beyond the arc. OSU and Wichita State traded baskets the rest of the way.
Miller led all scorers, tallying up a career-high of while shooting 10-of-19 from the field. Jones was all over the glass again grabbing 15 boards, seven of them being on the offensive end. This marks as Jones' fifth game in a row with double-digit rebounds.
The Cowgirls will be back in Stillwater to host Texas State at 7 p.m. on No. 30.
