STILLWATER- The 15th-ranked Oklahoma State men's tennis team kicked its spring season into high gear with victories over both Lamar, 7-0, and Bryant, 7-0, on Sunday at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.
Saturday's victories push the Cowboys to 10-1 on opening day under head coach Jay Udwadia, with their only loss coming against 19th-ranked Tennessee in 2013 - Udwadia's first year at the helm.
"It was really good to get a couple good wins," Udwadia said. "Lamar and Bryant are great opponents. I like to play coaches that I like and teams that are really well behaved. I thought that both teams were great players and personalities. It was a good day for our guys to get some confidence going. We've got a couple big matches next weekend with UMKC and Arkansas so that's going to help us get ready for those two matches as well."
OSU would complete a sweep of doubles action as Mathieu Scaglia and Jurence Mendoza recorded the first doubles win of the year, defeating Carlos Paton and Roy Stepanov, 6-1 on court three. Eleftherious Theodorou and Dubinski, secured the doubles point for the Cowboys defeating Nicolas Mayr and Benny Schweizer, 6-1.
In singles action against Lamar Freshman Luke Hammond was the first Cowboy to tack on another point for his team, as the Birmingham, UK native posted a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Carlos Paton. Just seconds later No. 93 ranked Mathieu Scaglia racked up another point for the Cowboys defeating Nicolas Mayr in dominating fashion, 6-1, 6-3.
