Cowboys Record Third Win of Season
January 19, 2018 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team recorded its third win of the year, as the 15th-ranked Cowboys knocked off UMKC, 6-1, on Friday at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.
The win improves the Cowboys to 3-0 on the year and marks the 95th win at Oklahoma State for coach Jay Udwadia.
"I think it was obviously good to get the doubles point and then follow through in singles," Udwadia said. "I thought UMKC played well. They tested us a little bit. I think to have a little adversity early on was good for our team. They just pushed through at the end and we saw a lot of good second sets from our guys. I think they just kind of relaxed and played through it and I was happy to see that finish."
The duo of Brady Draheim and Jurence Mendoza picked up their second win as a pair this season as the tandem dropped Daniel Izadifar and Hunter Clark, 6-3.
Julian Cash and Luke Hammond secured the doubles point for the Cowboys shortly thereafter, as they knocked off UMKC's Airam Castellano and Alex Pozo, 6-3, to pick up their second win of the season.
Oklahoma State, holding a 1-0 lead, continued in the ensuing singles action.
Luke Hammond quickly added a second point for the Cowboys, as he cruised past UMKC's Hunter Clark on court six, 6-0, 6-2. Hammond's win was his 11th of the season, which is the second most by a Cowboy this year. This is third consecutive match that Hammond has scored the first singles point for the Cowboys.
The No. 93 ranked Mathieu Scaglia secured the third point for the Cowboys defeating UMKC's Daniel Izadifar, 7-6 (7-1), 6-0. This marked Scaglia's 13th singles win of the season. He currently holds the Cowboys' top spot for singles wins this season.
Seconds later, Jurence Mendoza ultimately provided the clinching point for Oklahoma State on Friday, as the senior picked up the win, 6-3, 6-3, over Diego Giraldo. Mendoza now has 43 career singles and 58 career doubles wins.

With the victory secured, the Cowboys looked to close out the remaining matches.
Artur Dubinski was the first to do so, as he defeated UMKC's Tom Kruse, 7-5, 6-0. The 2017 Big 12 Newcomer of the year tallied his fifth win of the season and 15th of his young career.
Senior Julian Cash was the next Cowboy to extend the OSU lead, as he dropped UMKC's Airam Castellano, 7-5, 6-2, on court one. Cash now has five singles victories on the year, and 43 in his career at OSU.
Tristan Meraut was the last to wrap up his match, as he fell to UMKC's Alex Pozo, 4-6, 4-6.
The Cowboys will travel to Udwadia's alma mater, Arkansas, on Sunday to face the Razorbacks in Fayetteville at 1 p.m.
