Cowgirls Sweep Day Two in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team won all 10 of its matches Friday at the ITA Central Region Championships, with each Cowgirl advancing to the round of 16 in both singles and doubles. Through two days of competition, the Cowgirls are a combined 16-0 at the tournament.
""I am proud of the girls for another dominant day," head coach Chris Young said. "Being able to perform at a high level again today was what we expected and I am excited to see how our girls perform as the weekend continues."
Once again, both Cowgirl doubles teams advanced on Friday, both tallying 8-4 wins to move into Saturday's round of 16. The Cowgirls also combined to go a perfect 8-0 in singles action as well.
Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova picked up the victory over Minnesota's Tina Kreinis and Caitlyn Merzbacher for their second win of the weekend. Seeded ninth, the duo will face the No. 4-seeded team of Missouri's Marta Oliveira and Amina Ismail Saturday in the round of 16.
The region's second-seeded tandem of Cowgirls Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco handled Tulsa's Shura Poppe and Tamara Kupkova to set up a round of 16 bout with River Hart and Caroline Ryba of Minnesota.
In singles, Blanco tallied a couple wins to advance through. The Cowgirl junior dominated Oklahoma's Camila Romero, 6-2, 6-0, in her round of 64 match before dropping Nebraska's Paula Cueto Castillo by the same score.
Guinart would join Blanco in the round of 16 as well, opening the day's singles action with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Missouri's Clare Raley. Guinart followed that up with another straight-set, 6-2, 6-0 win over Tina Kreinis of Minnesota in the round of 32.
Stresnakova faced a tough battle from Missouri's Ellie Wright in her round of 64 match Friday. Wright took the first set from Stresnakova, 6-4, but the Cowgirl junior bounced back by taking the next two sets for the 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 win to move on. Stresnakova had little trouble in the following match, handling Rosanna Maffei of Kansas State, 6-2, 6-3, to advance.
Vladica Babic tallied a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Vasanti Shinde of Nebraska in the round of 64. Babic would join her teammates in the round of 16 later in the afternoon as she dropped UMKC's Katie Fries, 6-2, 6-0.
The Cowgirls will continue play in Lawrence on Saturday at 9 a.m. Two rounds of doubles and one round of singles are on the schedule for the day.
