Cowboys Rise To No. 13 Heading Into ITA Kick-Off
January 25, 2017 | Cowboy Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team jumped up one spot to No. 13 in the latest edition of the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Men's Division I Rankings, which were released today. Wednesday's rankings mark the 26th consecutive week that the Cowboys have been ranked inside the top-30 of the ITA rankings, which is the longest such streak during head coach Jay Udwadia's tenure.
There were no updated singles or doubles rankings released on Wednesday, meaning that a trio of Cowboys held onto their spots in the individual rankings, with OSU's top doubles duo of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe highlighting the group at No. 5.
Cash and Kadhe opened the spring season for the Cowboys with a pair of victories last Saturday, as the duo dropped Texas Rio Grande Valley's Elliot Johnstone and Clement Sarradin, 6-1, before besting Oral Roberts' Jan Pehnec and Kenneth Boykin, 6-2, in the nightcap. The win was the 12th of the season for Cash and Kadhe, who have now won 46 matches when teaming together since the start of last season.
Lukas Finzelberg continues Oklahoma State's highest-ranked singles competitor, as the German international remains at No. 30 this week. Finzelberg won his 10th singles contest of the season on Saturday when he knocked off ORU's Jan Pehnec in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Cash, who sits at No. 41, joins his teammate Finzelberg in the singles rankings. The Brighton, England native has been a fixture in the top-half of the ITA singles rankings throughout his tenure at Oklahoma State, as he has been ranked inside the top-60 dating back to March 8 of last season.
Oklahoma State continues its spring season this weekend as the Cowboys host Columbia, Kentucky and Tulsa as part of the 2017 ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The Cowboys are scheduled to play Columbia on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before facing either Kentucky or Tulsa on Saturday at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center. The winner of this weekend's event will earn a spot in next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championship, which will be contested in Charlottesville, Virginia, beginning on February 17.
Admission is free for this weekend's ITA Kick-Off, but fans can also follow all of the action via live stream at flotennis.com (subscription required).
