Full 2016-17 Cowgirl Golf Schedule
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's golf team has announced its 2016-17 schedule, which will once again pit the nine-time Big 12 champions against the nation's best teams on some of the country's top courses.
Led by Big 12 Coach of the Year Courtney Jones, the Cowgirls will play in eight different states before defending their conference crown at The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas on April 21-23.
The Cowgirls will also defend their title at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii on March 14-15. OSU has won this event five times in their history, including each of the last two years.
OSU will open the season in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Dick McGuire Invitational, which starts on Sept. 12. The Cowgirls topped five top-25 teams to finish fourth at last year's event.
The Annika Intercollegiate is up next for the Cowgirls on Sept. 25-27. This will be OSU's second appearance in the Annika, which pits the nation's top 12 squads against each other. OSU finished third in 2014 when then-freshman Maddie McCrary recorded a fifth-place finish in just her second event in collegiate golf.
OSU will close out the fall season with the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Chicago on Oct. 3-4, followed by a trip to Palo Alto, California for the Stanford Intercollegiate on Oct. 14-16.
The Cowgirls will return to the state of California for their spring opener on Feb. 12-14. Hosted by Ohio State in Palos Verdes, California, the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge attracts one of the country's top fields year-in-year-out.
After finishing second last season, the Cowgirls will return to the Big Easy to once again take on the All-State Sugar Bowl Invitational from Feb. 19-21.
McCrary was just a stroke off the lead at last year's Darrius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, South Carolina, which helped the Cowgirls finish fourth. OSU won't keep looking into that Cracked Rear View, but will return to the Darrius Rucker on March 3-5.
The Liz Murphy Invitational will close out the regular season for the Cowgirls on April 7-9 in Athens, Georgia. This will be OSU's fourth appearance at the Liz Murphy Invitational, but its first since 2009.
The Cowgirls will return their entire roster from a squad that won the 2016 Big 12 title, led the nation in birdies and advance to the NCAA Championships for the 21st time in school history.
Individually, Linnea Johansson was named Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American and Kenzie Neisen took home her second straight individual Big 12 title. Chih-Min Chen was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2016, and Maddie McCrary was named to her second straight All-Big 12 Conference squad.
