Cowgirls Prepare For Key Doubleheader
May 09, 2016 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER- Oklahoma State softball returns home with a five-game winning streak to take on Tulsa and Connecticut in a doubleheader on Tuesday at Cowgirl Stadium.
First pitch against the Golden Hurricane is set for 1 p.m. with the game against the Huskies scheduled for 4 p.m. Admission to both games is free.
"I think everyone is super excited," Sophomore Maddi Holcomb said. "We're breaking barriers and it feels really good. The mood is really upbeat."
The Cowgirls (27-22) come into the doubleheader following a series win over Kansas this past weekend, the first conference win on the road for Oklahoma State since 2011.
OSU took the opening game 10-4 and followed it up with an 11-9 win on Saturday before Sunday's game was canceled due to rain.
"We just stayed together," Sophomore Randee O'Donnell said. "We didn't' play super clean but we did what we needed to do to beat Kansas and just had some fun."
Oklahoma State's powerful offense showed itself again against the Jayhawks as the Cowgirls blasted five deep shots on the weekend, which moved them to 52 on the season to set a program record for most in a season. The Cowgirls are third in the Big 12 with their .311 batting average as a team.
Now the OSU turn its attention to a unique doubleheader against two opponents. First up will be the Golden Hurricane. Oklahoma State will look to even the season series at 1-1 after Tulsa took the first game 9-0 in Tulsa on Apr. 6.
Following the Tulsa game, the Oklahoma State will welcome Connecticut to Cowgirl Stadium. Oklahoma State will be seeking some revenge after the Huskies defeated them 8-2 last year in Stillwater.
"I think at this time of year every game that we're going to play is the biggest game that we'll play all year," Coach Kenny Gajewski said. "Tulsa is going to be the most important game we play and we've got to win. Then we'll move to our next game when that one is done and that will be an even bigger game. This time of year, when you're still in it and chasing (postseason play) it's just an exciting time."
Prior to the Tulsa game, members of the 2016 Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State women's tennis team will throw out the first pitch.
Both games will be streamed live and for free on okstate.live.com. Fans can also follow along with live stats on okstate.com
