STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball pitched two shutouts on its way to a doubleheader sweep of Tulsa and UConn on Tuesday at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Cowgirls took the first game against the Golden Hurricane 1-0 before beating UCONN 8-0 in six innings.
With the two victories, Oklahoma State extended its winning streak to seven games, the longest streak of the season.
"I had a blast," Coach Kenny Gajewski said. "It's as much fun as I've had. I was just able to sit back and watch our kids play. They're just playing so well together and having so much fun. We're just doing the things we've got to do to win and that's what makes coaches happy."
Oklahoma State (29-22 overall, 6-9 Big 12) showed it could win a pitchers duel once again against the Golden Hurricane.
The only run of the game came in the second inning thanks to sophomore Randee O'Donnell's RBI double to score junior Darcy Taylor.
Senior Kacy Freeze (16-8) went the distance in the circle, allowing just two hits from Tulsa (32-19) while striking out five to earn the win.
O'Donnell led the way at the plate for the Cowgirls, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
With the win, the Cowgirls evened the season series with the Golden Hurricane at 1-1.
The second game produced more offense for Oklahoma State against UConn (19-32).
The Cowgirls got it going in the third when sophomore Maddi Holcomb scored on an error at shortstop to give Oklahoma State a 1-0 lead. Senior Tiffany Mikkelson's RBI single up the middle a few batters later extended the lead to 2-0 after three.
Oklahoma State scored four in the fourth thanks to RBIs from sophomore Vanessa Shippy, freshman Taylor Lynch and freshman Madi Sue Montgomery.
Montgomery's RBI single in the top of the sixth extended the Cowgirl lead to 8-0 to secure the run-rule win after six.
Junior Brandi Needham (7-13) went the distance in the circle, allowing just one hit while striking out three to earn the victory.
"I think it's a really big day for us," Needham said. "We haven't done that in 13 innings all season and our defense really helped us out a lot. They were putting balls in play and everyone just kept being in the place they need to be and doing what they need to do."
Montgomery led the way at the plate for the Cowgirls, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
"(Today) was a lot of fun," Montgomery said. "We were playing really well together. Our pitchers did a good job of keeping them off the board and them we came in and scored runs for them. These were fun."
