Four Cowgirl Golfers Earn All-Big 12, Jones Named Coach Of The Year
May 04, 2016 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER – For the fourth time in program history and for the second consecutive year Oklahoma State placed four Cowgirls on the All-Big 12 Women's Golf Team.
Maddie McCrary, Linnea Johansson and back-to-back Big 12 individual champion Kenzie Neisen all repeated their selections from 2015, while Chih-Min Chen joined them on the squad and was named the league's Freshman of the Year. Third-year head coach Courtney Jones earned her first Big 12 Coach of the Year award.
Cowgirls have now accounted for 50 All-Big 12 selections and six Coach of the Year awards – both league highs – in the 20-year history of the conference.
Chen is the ninth OSU golfer to earn Big 12 Newcomer/Freshman of the Year honors, and the first since Kelsey Vines in 2012. In just her second collegiate event, Chen fired a 65 – tied for the third lowest round in school history – to earn a second place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic. She has a season stroke average of 73.19, which trails only Caroline Hedwall (72.94) for the lowest ever by a Cowgirl freshman.
McCrary piled up 23 wins over national top-50 players and boasts a 72.52 stroke average – both team bests. She has five top-10 finishes this year, and her round of 65 in the Windy City Intercollegiate is tied for the third best round in school history.
Johansson, a two-time All-Big 12 Team and All-Big 12 Tournament team selection, also owns five top-10 finishes this season, including a ninth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship. The junior has been at or under par in each of her last three stroke-play events, which has helped her lower her stroke average to an impressive 72.56.
Neisen's 6-under 66 on Sunday tied for the lowest round in Big 12 Championship history, and her 9-under 207 final score broke the previous record by a stroke. The sophomore has a season stroke average of 73.09, including an average of 71.0 in the month of April. She has four top-10 finishes this year, including the last three outings.
The Cowgirls won their ninth Big 12 Championship in program history last month and earned the No. 3 seed in the Shoal Creek NCAA Regional, which begins play on Thursday.
