Hammonds Scores Game-High 20 In Loss To Texas

Stillwater, Okla.---- Leyton Hammonds scored a game-high 20 points in a 62-50 loss to Texas in Gallagher-Iba Arena on Friday.
The 20-point performance was two points shy of his career high, and was the 11th time this season he finished with double-figure scoring. Hammonds also finished with six rebounds.Â
Oklahoma State once again found itself in position to pull the upset late in the game. The Cowboys tied the game at 48 with 7:11 left thanks to a Hammonds' jumper and looked primed to win the final game of the season at Gallagher-Iba.
Chris Olivier's layup cut the Texas lead to 52-50 with 4:11 remaining, but the Longhorns finished on a 10-0 run to seal the victory.
In the first half, Oklahoma State continued its annual senior night tradition and had all five seniors start.
The seniors held their own and helped the Cowboys tie the game at 7 at the first media timeout with 15:50 remaining.
Hammonds started his impressive performance early, and scored nine points to help Oklahoma State take a 16-13 lead into the second media timeout with 11:41 left.
A pair of Tyree Griffin free throws cut the eventual Texas lead to 27-25, and Hammonds' jumper with 3:00 remaining tied the game at 27.
Another Hammonds' jumper just before the half tied the game at 29 at halftime. He finished the half with a game-high 15 points on seven-of-11 shooting.
The Oklahoma State seniors combined for 13 points and nine rebounds in their final game in Stillwater. The group was honored before the game for all they've done for Oklahoma State basketball.Â
Kerwin Roach led the way for Texas with 15 points.
Alongside Hammonds, Oklahoma State also had an impact performance from Griffin. He finished with eight points and six rebounds, which was one shy of his career high for rebounds.Â
