Texas Postgame Notes
March 04, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- Leyton Hammonds hit his first four shots from the floor and finished with 20 points - his third career 20-point game. The junior posted 18 points in the first matchup against the Longhorns in Austin.
- Oklahoma State is officially the No. 9 seed in the upcoming Big 12 Championship in Kansas City, Mo. The Cowboys will face No. 8 Kansas State in the opening round on Wednesday, March 9 at 6 p.m. on ESPNU, and the winner of that game will take on top seeded Kansas on Thursday, March 10 at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN2. OSU split the regular season meetings with both K-State and Kansas, with the Cowboys winning the matchups in Stillwa-ter. The Cowboys are 11-0 all-time in the first round of the Big 12 Championship, and 23-17 overall in the league showdown.
- OSU wraps up the regular season on a six-game losing streak, which is due in part to a series of injuries and illnesses to key players like Phil Forte and Jawun Evans.
- The Cowboys had won the last four games against the Longhorns in Stillwater, and are now 21-14 at home against Texas.
- The Cowboys have won six of the last nine games against the Longhorns overall. OSU swept the season series in 2015, which was the second sweep in three seasons for the Cowboys over UT. Texas owns a slight lead in the overall series, 48-41.
- OSU is now 1-9 this season against teams ranked in the AP top 25.
- Five Oklahoma State seniors played their final game in Gallagher-Iba Arena. OSU recognized Codey McElroy, Ford Stuen, Chris Olivier, Anthony Allen and Jeff Newberry in a pregame ceremony. The group has combined to play in 175 games for the Cowboys over the last four seasons.
- Leyton Hammonds and Jeffrey Carroll returned to the floor for OSU after missing the Iowa State game. Hammonds is nursing a hurt right index finger, while Carroll has missed two games with a reoccurring stomach illness.
- Known more for his handles, Tyree Griffin finished with six rebounds, which is just one shy of his career high.
- Jeff Newberry is the only player to start every game for OSU this season.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 514 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.
