Young Earns Win No. 100 In Shutout Of Iowa State
March 20, 2016 | Cowgirl Tennis
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's Chris Young earned victory No. 100 as head coach of the Cowgirl tennis program via the Cowgirls' 4-0 shutout of Iowa State inside the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center on Sunday.
Young holds the third most wins in program history behind Julius Lubicz-Majewski (283) and Ike Groce (167).
"It's really about all the girls and the people we've had over the last seven years that have helped build our program to where it is now," Young said. "We've come a long way as a program and today is really just a celebration of what we've done so far."
Cowgirl senior Maria Alvarez said Young has helped take the program to new heights in her four years.
"I'm really happy for [Young] and I know how hard he has worked for this program," Alvarez said. "I'm happy for him and happy to be part of this team."
The Cowgirls (13-4; 2-0 Big 12) put together one of the quickest doubles points of the season against the Cyclones.
Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari dominated at the No. 2 slot in doubles. The junior duo did not lose a single game against Regina Espindola and Claudia Toledo, winning 6-0.
Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic earned their second win of the weekend on court three with a win against Ana Gasparovic and Liza Buss, 6-2.
Lushkova gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead with a quick victory to open singles play. The All-American cruised past Alejandra Galvis in a straight-set victory, 6-0, 6-1.
Alvarez stretched the lead to 3-0 against Liera Bender on court six in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
"We had good energy through the whole match and that was our main goal for this weekend," Alvarez said.
Katarina Stresnakova clinched the match for the Cowgirls on court five. The newest Cowgirl took down Gasparovic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
The Cowgirls will return to action on March 29 as in-state rival Tulsa visits the Greenwood Tennis Center.
