STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team cruised past the No. 21 Tulsa Golden Hurricane with a 4-0 victory inside the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center on Tuesday.
"Tulsa is a really good team and we always have tough matches with them," head coach Chris Young said. "I thought this was one of our better performances of the season with the energy we brought and consistent play throughout the lineup."
With the win, the Cowgirls (14-4; 2-0 Big 12) remain undefeated with 11 wins at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
"We couldn't do it without our crowd, they create a great home court advantage here," Young said. "They were great tonight and everyone that came was loud, and I think that's the great thing about our crowd, not only do they come but they get involved."
OSU captured the doubles point in quick fashion with wins on courts two and three. The No. 45 duo of Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic gave the Pokes momentum early in the match on court three with a win against Saana Saarteinen and Martha Dadireddy, 6-2.
Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari, ranked No. 38, ensured the point for the Cowgirls on court two, 6-3. Lushkova and Tur Mari improved to 16-1 in spring competition with the win against Rongrong Leenabanchong and Martha Matoula.
The Cowgirls have won 17 out of 18 doubles points on the year.
"If we play like this, I think we're going to be a tough team to beat the rest of the season," Young said.
Lushkova, ranked No. 62, extended the Cowgirl lead early in singles play with a flawless performance at the No. 3 position. The Ukrainian did not drop a game in her straight-set victory against Leenabanchong, 6-0, 6-0.
Tur Mari provided the third point of the night for the Cowgirls on court six against Martha Matoula. The Ibiza, Spain native also put together a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-3, for her ninth singles win of the season.
The clinching point came from senior Kelsey Laurente, playing at the No. 4 position.
"I'm really happy with Kelsey, I thought it was a really good match for her," Young said. "She really played well in the first set and in the second set it got tight, but she was able to step up when she needed to."
The Cowgirl took the match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, for her ninth win of the season.
OSU will return to action with a pair of weekend matches, as the Cowgirls travel to Austin to take on No. 50 Texas on Friday before a match against No. 34 Baylor on Sunday.
