Cowgirls Win Fourth-Straight Against Texas
April 01, 2016 | Cowgirl Tennis
AUSTIN, Texas – The Oklahoma State women's tennis squad pushed its win streak to four matches with a 4-2 victory against the No. 34 Texas Longhorns inside the Weller Indoor Tennis Center on Friday.
"I'm really proud of the progress our team has made over the past three weeks," head coach Chris Young said. "Every girl has made improvement and we are competing at a high level."
The No. 17 Cowgirls (15-4; 3-0 Big 12) remain at the top of the Big 12 standings after Friday's match.
OSU had not defeated Texas in Austin in 25 years, but has now won its last two road matches in Austin. The Cowgirls have won the last four meetings against the Longhorns.
"Texas is well-coached and to win here on the road is never easy, so this was a good win and we look forward to another challenge on Sunday," Young said.
The match began with a tightly contested doubles point, which needed all three courts to determine a winner. After splitting the first two doubles matches, the Cowgirls turned to Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari to secure the point.
The junior duo battled back from a 4-2 deficit to force a tiebreaker against Neda Koprcina and Daniella Roldan. Lushkova and Tur Mari dominated the tiebreaker to clinch the point for the Cowgirls in a 7-6 (2) victory at the No. 2 position.
Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic wasted little time giving the Pokes an early advantage in doubles. The duo, ranked No. 45, did not drop a game on court three against Chelsea Crovetti and Katie Poluta, winning, 6-0.
The Longhorns took the match on court one in a battle of ranked doubles pairings. The Longhorns' Breuanna Addison and Dani Wagland, ranked No. 17, defeated No. 23 Kelsey Laurente and Maria Alvarez, 6-3.
Laurente bounced back in singles play with the clinching point for the Cowgirls. The Miramar, Florida native defeated Poluta in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Laurente has clinched the last two matches for the Cowgirls.
Tur Mari carried the momentum from doubles into singles play, where she won her third-straight match. The Cowgirl provided a masterful performance at the No. 6 position against Crovetti, 6-0, 6-0.
Cowgirl freshman Katarina Stresnakova gave the Cowgirls a commanding 3-1 lead with a straight-set victory at the No. 5 position. Stresnakova took down Roldan, 6-4, 6-1, for her tenth win of the season.
