October 13, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State basketball team was tied with Texas Tech in seventh place on the Big 12 Preseason Coach Poll, the league announced on Thursday.
The Cowboys return the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in point guard Jawun Evans, along with former All-Big 12 guard Phil Forte and its leading rebounder, Leyton Hammonds.
Brad Underwood took the reins of the program in March after racking up an 89-14 record and a pair of NCAA Tournament wins at Stephen F. Austin. The 89 wins are tied for the most wins in the first three years of a coaching career in NCAA history.
A unanimous selection, Kansas was picked atop the league for a fifth straight season. The Jayhawks have won 12 straight regular season conference crowns.
The Big 12 has been the No. 1 conference in the nation in the RPI for three straight seasons and boasted the nation's best non-conference winning percentage in 2015-16.
Oklahoma State will host Pittsburg State in exhibition play on Nov. 1 and will open the Underwood era at home against Campbell on Nov. 11. Cowboy basketball season tickets start at just $199 and are available by calling 877-ALL-4-OSU or by visiting okstate.com/tickets.
