Cowboys Fall to Baylor In Waco

Waco, Texas ---- Jeffrey Carroll scored 15 points in a 79-62 loss to Baylor at the Ferrell Center on Tuesday night.
Oklahoma State started the second half just as it needed after trailing by 12 at halftime, and quickly cut the Baylor lead to single digits.
After going back and forth for a few possessions, a Mitchel Solomon offensive rebound and layup cut the deficit to 53-47 with 13:22 remaining.
Carroll spotted up in the corner and hit a deep three to cut the deficit to 59-54, and a Chris Olivier layup the following possession off a Baylor turnover made it a three-point game with a little more than 10 minutes left.
Oklahoma State struggled to score after the Olivier field goal, and the Bears hung on for the win.
As for the first half, Oklahoma State enjoyed early success with a Carroll three that gave it a 5-2 lead, but the Bears used a 7-0 run after the field goal to take a 9-5 lead into the first media timeout.
Leyton Hammonds was the early spark for the Cowboy offensive, scoring four of the team's first seven points to start the game.
Baylor shot the ball well from the start, and eventually held a 21-10 lead with 12 minutes left in the first half.
The Baylor lead was 18 with 5:16 remaining, but a 9-0 Cowboy run capped off with a Jawun Evans three cut the deficit to 40-31 with 1:49 remaining till halftime.
Oklahoma State trailed 45-33 at the half.
Evans was a major factor in cutting the Baylor lead before halftime, as he had seven points and seven assists after the first 20 minutes of play.
Oklahoma State shared the ball from the tip, and finished with 23 assists and had eight of the ten players who saw action score.
Rico Gathers led the way for the Bears with 17 points and 17 rebounds.
Alongside Carroll, Oklahoma State also had solid contributions from Jeff Newberry and Evans. Newberry finished with 10 points, and Evans finished with eight points and a career-high nine assists.
