Oklahoma State Snapshot
• After taking down No. 3/3 Kansas at home last Wednesday, the Cowboys struggled at Kansas State on Saturday. OSU entered the game against the Wildcats ranked No. 31 in the country in field goal percentage defense (39.3 percent) and No. 47 in scoring defense (65.6 points), but allowed K-State to score 89 points and shoot 57.7 percent from the floor - both opponent season highs. In fact, no other opponent has reached the 80-point plateau against the Cowboys this year.
• Four of OSU's five losses in league play have come on the road, where those opponents have combined for a 40-5 (88.9 percent) home record. The Cowboy's lone home loss in Big 12 play was by two points to then No. 2 Oklahoma.
• On Monday, freshman Jawun Evans earned the Big 12's Newcomer of the Week award for the second straight week and for the third time in the last six weeks. Evans led the Cowboys to one of the biggest upsets in school history with a 22-point, eight-assist, six-rebound performance in a victory over No. 3 Kansas. For the week, the freshman averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals – all team highs. He shot 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the floor, converting both 3-point attempts. Evans was also 9-of-10 (.900) from the line. He leads all Big 12 freshman in scoring, field goal percentage, assists, free throw percentage, assist/turnover ratio and defensive rebounds. He has 93 assists this year, which ranks fifth among all freshmen in OSU history.
• Last week's victory over No. 3/3 Kansas gave the Cowboys a 66.7 all-time win percentage at home against opponents ranked in the Associated Press top three, which is the best in college basketball history according to ESPN.
• A strong start, especially on the defensive end of the floor, is key for the Cowboys. In its Big 12 victories, OSU held its opponents to 38.2 percent shooting and 31.0 points in the first half. In its Big 12 losses, OSU's opponents have shot 50.7 percent from the floor and scored 43.0 points in the first half, and are averaging a 14-point haftime lead.
• The Cowboys field a solid defensive unit that ranks third in the Big 12 in scoring defense at 66.8 points per game. OSU is holding its opponents to 40.2 percent shooting, which ranks fourth in the league. The Cowboys defense starts at the rim, where they rank third in the Big 12 with 4.74 blocked shots per game. The Cowboys have held their Big 12 opponents to 72.6 points and 42.9 percent shooting, which ranks third and fourth in the league, respectively.
• Senior Phil Forte injured his elbow in the first half of the win over Towson, which snapped his streak of consecutive games played at 102. The senior hadn't missed a single game in his career up to that point. Forte was a Preseason All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honoree, and needs just 55 three-pointers to tie Keiton Page (2008-12) for the school record. At the time, he ranked third in the Big 12 in career scoring and third in the country in career 3-pointers.
• Head coach Travis Ford ranks third in school history in both total wins (153) and win percentage (60.5 percent). Ford ranks behind only Eddie Sutton and Mr. Henry Iba in both categories, and recently picked up his 21st win over a ranked opponent with the victory over No. 3 KU.
Baylor Snapshot
• The Bears enter Wednesday's game tied atop the Big 12 standings with a 5-2 mark in league play. Baylor is coming off an 82-72 loss to Oklahoma in Waco in which the Sooners shot a sizzling 62 percent from the floor and knocked down 16-of-28 (57.1 percent) from 3-point.
• Rico Gathers leads the Big 12 in rebounding at 10.1 boards per game, and was a thorn in OSU's side in the last meeting on Jan. 5. The senior piled up 17 rebounds against the Cowboys, which was only one board shy of OSU's team total of 18. Gathers has seven double-doubles this season, which is tied with OU's Ryan Spangler for the Big 12 lead.
• Baylor leads the nation in assist with a clip of 20.8 per contest thanks in large part to the efforts of point guard Lester Medford. The senior leads the Big 12 and ranks fourth nationally with 7.3 assists per game. The Bears average 22.2 assists per home game, but in its five true road games that average drops to 13.2 per game games.
