Cowgirls Lose To No. 19 UCF, 2-1
September 06, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
ORLANDO, Fla. — Oklahoma State surrendered a pair of goals during a six-minute span in the second half and dropped a 2-1 match to 19th-ranked UCF Sunday at the UCF Soccer Complex.
With the loss, OSU fell to 2-3-0, while the Knights improved to 4-1-1.
The game was one of near misses for the Cowgirls, who doubled the home team in shots, 20-10, but saw two attempts hit the crossbar and one deflect off the post.
The Cowgirls took the lead at the 24:05 mark when Allie Stephenson collected a pass from Marlo Zoller, took a couple of dribbles and fired a shot from 35-yards out to the far upper post. The goal was Stephenson's first of the season, while Zoller notched her first collegiate assist.
Early in the second half, UCF would get the equalizer from leading scorer Carol Rodrigues. After intercepting a pass by Delaney Kiely, Rodrigues delivered a shot from 12-yards out to the far post to tie the score at 1-1.
Less than six minutes later, the Knights recorded what proved to be the winning goal when Ashley Spivey drilled a shot from just outside the 18-yard box into the back of the net to put UCF up, 2-1.
Try as it might, OSU simply couldn't produce the equalizer.
The Cowgirls outshot UCU 14-5 in the final half, with Anna Beffer twice hitting the crossbar with long shots and Courtney Dike delivering a shot from the box that deflected off the far post.
OSU returns to action this weekend with two more road matches, taking on Washington State Friday before a Sunday contest at Gonzaga.
