World Championship Experience Paying Dividends For Evans At OSU
September 04, 2015 | Cowboy Basketball
Jawun Evans and his USA Basketball teammates hoisted their gold medals in the air to celebrate winning the U19 FIBA World Championship in Crete, Greece. In less than 48 hours, the freshman point guard would be at Gallagher-Iba Arena working out with his new Oklahoma State teammates at 7 a.m.
No one would have blamed the McDonald's All-American for taking a week to catch his breath, but that's not his style. Evans wasn't going to let an opportunity to gel with his teammates slip by.
"Jawun is such an incredible player because he makes everyone around him better," said OSU head coach Travis Ford. "He has a great understanding of the game, and he's extremely unselfish."
Evans missed only a handful of workouts in Stillwater while in Greece competing at the world championships, but it's an experience he thinks will pay dividends down the road.
