NORMAN, Okla. – Chih-Min Chen and Linnea Johansson powered the Oklahoma State women's golf team to a seven stroke win in the Schooner Fall Classic, the program's first victory of the season.
Chen, who carded a 6-under 65 in the opening round on Saturday, made a charge at the tournament's individual title after birdies on 17 and 18, but fell just two strokes short. She carded a 3-under 68 to finish the tournament in second place at 9-under (133).
After an even par opening round, Johansson was on fire to start the day. She made the turn on Monday at 4-under and scored an even-par back nine. That was good enough to give the junior a sixth place finish at 71-67 – 138 (-4).
Sunday's rainout might have been the only thing that prevented one of the best tournament scores in Oklahoma State history. The Cowgirls shot 276 on Saturday – the third best round in program history – and followed it up with a 278 on Monday, which is tied for the fourth best round by an OSU squad.
Alexis Sadeghy shot a career-best 2-under 69 on Monday to finish in a tie with teammate Kenzie Neisen in 19th place. Both finished the two-day tournament with a 1-over 143.
Maddie McCrary finished 33rd with a 72-74 – 146 (+4).
After back-to-back tournaments, the Cowgirls will take two-week break before heading to Chicago for the Windy City Intercollegiate on Oct. 5-6.
