Chen Cards Third Lowest Round In Cowgirl History In Schooner Classic
September 19, 2015 | Cowgirl Golf
NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma State freshman golfer Chih-Min Chen carded the third-lowest round in school history – a 6-under par 65 – which helped the Cowgirls record the program's third lowest team score and take a seven stroke lead into the clubhouse after the opening round of the Schooner Fall Classic.
The Cowgirls shot an opening round 8-under 276, which is the third-best round in school history and the lowest since recording a 275 in the Dale McNamara Invite on Oct. 14, 2011. OSU won the Schooner Fall Classic in 2013.
Chen opened play on the back nine of the 5,901-yard par 71 course at Belmar Golf Club, and reeled off birdies on her first three holes. She made the turn at 5-under par, and only recorded one bogey on the day. Only Jayde Panos (65 at the 2011 Dale McNamara) and Amy Ruengmateekhun (2012 Stanford Intercollegiate) have lower rounds in school history.
Chen will open play on Sunday trailing only Kansas' Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, who fired an 8-under 63.
On any other day sophomore Kenzie Neisen would have made headlines with her 3-under par 68 – the lowest round of her career. The 2015 Big 12 individual champion racked up seven birdies and sits in sixth place after the first day of action.
Linnea Johansson is in 12th place after an even-par 71, while Maddie McCrary will enter Sunday's round in 20th place with a 1-over 72. Alexis Sadeghy shot a 3-over 74, and is in 29th place.
