Neisen Becomes First Golfer To Win Minnesota's Amateur & State Open Titles
August 05, 2015 | Cowgirl Golf
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Just six days after taking home the Minnesota Women's State Amateur Championship, Oklahoma State sophomore Kenzie Neisen pulled away from the field to capture the 2015 Minnesota Women's State Open – making her the first golfer to win both titles in the same season.
Neisen entered Wednesday's round tied for the lead after an even-par 72 on Tuesday, but followed it with an impressive final-round 67 to win by five strokes at Hillcrest Golf Club.
"This year has been amazing," Neisen said. "I hope to keep building off of it and learning from it. One day at a time—one shot at a time."
The runner-up in last year's event, Neisen got off to a tough start Wednesday after a three-putt bogey on the fourth hole put her at 1-over for the tournament. The New Prague, Minn., native regrouped and dropped in birdies on the sixth, seventh, 10th, 13th, 14th and 17th holes.
Neisen, who won the 2015 Big 12 individual championship as a freshman at OSU, cruised to a 12-stroke win in last week's Minnesota Women's State Amateur Championship at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn.
