U.S. Amateur Run Ends In Round Of 16 Playoff For OSU's McCrary
August 13, 2015 | Cowgirl Golf
PORTLAND, Ore. – Oklahoma State's Maddie McCrary was one stroke from taking down the world's No. 5 ranked amateur and advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2015 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at Portland Golf Club, but a bogey on the 20th hole ended her run in the round of 16.
The sophomore was 1-up going into the 18th hole, but her match-play opponent, Sierra Brooks, birdied to send the round into a playoff. After both players parred the 19th hole, McCrary's par putt on the 20th rolled past the cup to give the match to Brooks.
The narrow loss ended a successful U.S. Amateur run for McCrary and her OSU teammate Kenzie Neisen, who exited in the round of 32 earlier in the day.
Neisen, also a sophomore, was 2 up through seven holes on Mathilda Cappeliez of France, who is currently the No. 40 ranked amateur in the world. Cappeliez rebounded to take the next five holes, and closed the match, 4 and 3, with a par putt on hole 15.
