Cowboys Fall to Florida In Orange Bowl Classic

SUNRISE, Fla. ----- Jawun Evans scored 17 points in a 72-70 loss to Florida on Saturday in the Orange Bowl Classic at the BB&T Center.
He also finished the night with seven rebounds and five assists.
A Jeffrey Carroll offensive rebound and quick layup gave Oklahoma State a 39-38 lead with 17:31 remaining.
Leyton Hammonds' three pointer with 14:27 remaining and a jumper the following possession gave the Cowboys the lead once more f at 46-44.
After Jeff Newberry made a pair of free throws with 4:28 left, his three pointer the next possession cut the Florida lead to 66-64.
A late Evans three with less than a second left cut the Florida lead to 72-70, but the Gators were able to run out the clock after an Oklahoma State timeout.Â
The first half went back and forth from the tip.
The Oklahoma State defense held Florida to two-of-10 shooting to start the game, and quickly had an 11-4 lead. Hammonds picked up right where he left off from his career-scoring night against Longwood, and scored seven of the first 11 points for the Cowboys.
Oklahoma State's hot shooting from behind the arc also continued as it started three-of-five from long distance and held an 18-15 lead at the first media timeout with 9:10 remaining in the half.
After a Florida run, a pair of Evans free throws gave the Cowboys the lead once more, and a deep Newberry three pointer a few possessions later gave Oklahoma State a 28-25 lead.
Florida led the Cowboys 35-34 at the end of a half that featured four lead changes and ties. Oklahoma State finished the half with seven Cowboys in the scoring column.
Dorian Finney-Smith led the way for Florida, as he finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Alongside Evans, Oklahoma State had two others finish in double figures in the scoring column. Hammonds finished with 14 points and five rebounds, and Newberry finished with 14 points and four rebounds.
