STILLWATER, Okla. --Â Jeff Newberry scored 11 points and brought down seven rebounds in a 61-43 win against the UMKC Kangaroos on Tuesday in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
UMKC shook off a slow shooting start after halftime, but the Cowboys still held a 43-37 lead with 8:02 left in the game.
Later in the half, after a Tyree Griffin three, a Jawun Evans layup the following possession gave Oklahoma State a 48-37 lead with 6:42 remaining.
The Cowboy defense saw success from the tip, holding UMKC to 1-of-11 shooting from the field, which helped sparked an 11-2 Oklahoma State lead eight minutes into the game. Oklahoma State also had success in the turnover department, forcing five 'Roos' turnovers in the first nine minutes of the first half.
The sixth UMKC turnovers, forced by Jeffrey Carroll, led to an easy dunk for the Cowboy to give Oklahoma State its biggest lead of the first half at 22-10 with 4:07 remaining.
Oklahoma State led the 'Roos 26-18 at the half, leading for all but the first 2:40 of the game when it was tied.
