STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's golf team is brimming with confidence, but you wouldn't know it by the intensity on display Tuesday during the third qualifying round for next week's Windy City Intercollegiate.
The Cowgirls are coming off last week's five-stroke victory in the Schooner Classic in Norman, Okla., and now all seven players are battling at Stillwater Country Club for five spots on the flight to Chicago.
"The win in Norman was really big for us, and it's got us motivated to work even harder now," said junior Linnea Johannson, who tied for sixth place at the Schooner Classic after a final round 67. "It's great that we have such a good team. It makes even qualifying a great competition, and turns every round into a tournament. Everyone out here wants to win every time we play."
The season's inaugural Golfweek/Sagarin National Rankings came out this week, and No. 20 OSU will face seven teams ranked higher at the Windy City Classic, including No. 1 USC and four other top 10 squads.
The Cowgirls have enjoyed success at the Windy City Classic in recent years. OSU won the event in 2011, finished second in 2013 and earned top-5 finishes in 2012 and 2014.
