FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Oklahoma State's John Teeters continued his sensational early-season tear through the sprinting circuit on Saturday, running a 6.56 in the 60 meter dash to lead Oklahoma State track and field in day two of the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
Teeters, who recorded a mark of 6.55 in the preliminary round on Friday, earned his third first-place finish of the season with Saturday's performance. The Edmond, Okla., native has been remarkably consistent through the first month of 2015, as he has now recorded times of 6.54, 6.55 and 6.56 in the 60 meter dash.
“My coach tells me that consistency is a blessing at least once a week,” Teeters said. “I just focus on my technique, pay attention to detail and focus on how my body feels every day. After that, I just put on the right mindset and go.”
In only his second appearance of the season, Vegard Oelstad contributed an additional first-place finish for the Cowboys, as the junior took first in the one mile run with a mark of 4:01.55. Oelstad was followed close behind by Luis Martinez (4:07.06) and Craig Nowak (4:07.61), who both registered new personal bests in the event.
After capping off a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the distance medley relay on Friday, Chad Noelle continued his early-season success with a second-place effort in the 3,000 meter run. The junior from Greene, N.Y., recorded a time of 7:56.76 in Saturday's effort, giving him a new personal best and the No. 8 time in the nation.
On the women's side, Kaela Edwards and Clara Nichols provided lifetime bests in the 800 meters, finishing in second and third, respectively. Edwards' mark of 2:05.25, the third-best time in NCAA competition this season, moves her up to No. 2 on the OSU all-time list, while Nichols' mark of 2:06.25 gives her the country's sixth-best time in the event.
Freshman Jennifer Celis also recorded a new personal best in the 800 meters, finishing tenth behind a time of 2:08.74. In total, the Cowgirls placed four in the top 15 of the event.
To wrap up the day, Anna Boyert finished first in her heat and sixth overall in the mile with a mark of 4:48.19, while true freshman Aurora Dybedokken finished in eighth (4:59.33).
The Oklahoma State track and field program will return to action next weekend, as the teams split between the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque, N.M., and the Sevigne Husker Invite in Lincoln, Neb. Both meets will take place on Friday, Feb. 6, and Saturday, Feb. 7.
