Cowboy Tennis Defeats Illinois State, 5-1

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team defeated Illinois State, 5-1, on Sunday at the Greenwood Tennis Center and improved to 2-0 on the weekend.
The Cowboys got off to a slow start, dropping the doubles point to the Redbirds with losses on courts two and three. The Cowboys earned a win on court one with Jakob Sude and Lucas Gerch teaming up for a 7-5 victory.
OSU had no problems bouncing back in singles competition, winning five-straight matches to clinch the match and earn its second team win of the season.
Tristan Meraut won his second match of the weekend in dominating fashion, not allowing his Redbird opponent a chance to get on the board, defeating him, 6-0, 6-0, on court three. The win gave the Pokes their first point of the match.
On court four, redshirt freshman Lukas Finzelberg wrapped up his play shortly after Meraut, taking on ISU's Ronaldo Torrellas. The Cowboy took control early in the match and walked away with a 6-1, 6-3 win.
Lucas Gerch, a sophomore, gave up only two games en route to a commanding 6-0, 6-2 win over Urh Krajnc on court two.
Newcomer Trent Botha of South Africa clinched the match for the Pokes, defeating Andreas Boers, 6-4, 6-1, on court six. In the first set, the two were tied, 4-4, but Botha pulled away to win the first set and shut down Boers in the second set, only losing one more game.
With a simultaneous finish on court one, 98th-ranked Jakob Sude notched a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jakub Eisner to give the Cowboys their fifth point.
OSU returns to the Greenwood Tennis Center on Monday to take on Oral Roberts at 12 p.m.
