Cowboy Tennis Finishes Weekend 3-0

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's tennis team, ranked No. 25 in the nation, posted a 5-0 win against Oral Roberts University on Monday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
The Cowboys (3-0) sailed through the doubles portion to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
On court one, senior Jakob Sude paired up with newcomer Tristan Meraut and defeated ORU's Capdeaui/Pehnec duo, 6-0. Doubles wrapped up after a 6-2 win on court three from Lukas Finzelberg and Nathan Roper.
Brothers Lucas Gerch and Leonard Gerch were only one point away from a victory on court two.
The Pokes kept the momentum going, finishing up singles play in less than an hour.
Freshman Trent Botha was the first to complete his singles match, taking on Michael Sosnowski. Botha dropped his first game to the Golden Eagle, but that was about all he gave up as he dominated, 6-1, 6-1.
Giving the Cowboys a 3-0 lead in the team score, Finzelberg produced a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jan Pehnec on court three.
Clinching the match on court four, Leonard Gerch defeated Alvaro Santamaria. The two exchanged several games in the first set, but Gerch finished the set with the advantage and was unstoppable in the second, winning the match 6-4, 6-1.
Lucas Gerch grabbed the fifth point for the squad, finishing just seconds after his brother. Gerch, who played on court one, put away Amar Saletovic, 6-4, 6-3.
The Cowboys travel to South Bend, Ind., next weekend to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 24-25.
