Cowgirl Softball Releases Fall Schedule

STILLWATER, Okla. -
Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team has released its 2014 fall exhibition schedule, head coach Rich Wieligman announced Monday.
The Cowgirls' fall slate, consisting of five events in Stillwater and one on the road, kicks off Sept. 17, when Oklahoma State welcomes Eastern Oklahoma Junior College for a 5 p.m. game at Cowgirl Stadium. OSU will host matchups the following two weeks, as NOC-Enid ventures to Stillwater on Sept. 24, followed by a home game against Southern Nazarene on Sept. 30.
OSU's four-game home-stand ends on Sunday, Oct. 5, with a 1 p.m. battle against the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Ark. The following Saturday, the Cowgirls will head to Tulsa, Okla., to take on the Golden Hurricane before wrapping up their fall schedule against Rogers State on Oct. 15, set for a 5 p.m. first pitch in Stillwater.
The 20-player fall squad returns 13 members from last year's campaign, including seniors Shelby Davis (centerfield) and Gessenia DeLaCruz (shortstop). Davis, who earned All-Midwest Region and All-Big 12 honors last season, enters her final year with the Cowgirls with the third-most stolen bases (64) in school history.
Former pitching standout Simone Freeman leaves the starting pitching job up for grabs, as Whitney Whitehorn, Meagan Lively, Brandi Needham, Jessi Haffner and Peyton Walker will battle for the opening-day spot. Third baseman Tiffany Mikkelson, OSU's leader in RBIs last season, outfielders Danielle Riddle and Shianne Hughes, and catcher Miranda Cavin round out the rest of the returning starters.
The 2014-15 Cowgirl squad will also welcome a class of seven newcomers, highlighted by Vanessa Shippy, an incoming freshman, two-time first-team High School All-American and recipient of the Gatorade Idaho Softball Player of the Year award.
