Softball Drops Rubber Game to Texas, 3-0

AUSTIN, Texas - The Oklahoma State softball team dropped the rubber match of a three-game series against Texas 3-0 here Sunday afternoon at McCombs Field.
Texas (30-19, 9-4 Big 12) took the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a double by Many Ogle that scored Devon Tunning and Kelli Hanzel. The Longhorns added one more in the inning to go up 3-0.
Pitching took over for both teams for the remainder of the contest. OSU starter Simone Freeman (20-13) pitched six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out three. Her counterpart, Gabby Smith (13-4) went seven innings, allowing no runs, three hits and striking out two.
The three hits on the day for the Cowgirls (25-23, 5-11) came from Tiffany Mikkelson who had lead off singles in the top of the fourth and sixth innings, and Shelby Davis, who led the seventh off with a base hit down the left field line. However, the Cowgirls stranded 10 runners on base.
The Cowgirls return to action Wednesday, April 30, when they travel to Tulsa for a rematch of last Wednesday's pitcher's duel against the Golden Hurricane.
