The No. 21 Oklahoma State men's tennis team fell just short of an upset bid at No. 11 Texas on Friday, as the Longhorns pulled out a 4-3 victory at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Despite earning the early doubles point, OSU (18-3, 1-1 Big 12) was unable to overcome five first-set defeats from the Longhorns' solid singles attack. With the loss, the Cowboys snap their seven-match winning streak and perfect conference record.
In doubles play, Jakob Sude and Arjun Kadhe earned their second win over a ranked opponent on the weekend, taking out #13 Glasspool/Hess-Olesen, 8-5. The No. 1 Cowboy doubles tandem improved its record to 7-0 with the win. Chris Haworth and Brady Bohrnstedt also posted a conference victory in their 8-2 rout over Holiner/Lewis on court three.
Despite losing only its seventh doubles point of the season, Texas fired back by taking the first set at Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles. The Longhorns tied up the match after Arjun Kadhe suffered a 6-2, 6-4 straight set defeat from Adrien Bercowicz at No. 3, but Lucas Gerch responded by notching a 6-3, 6-0 win over 74th-ranked Lloyd Glasspool.
The Cowboys then found themselves with their backs against the wall after UT finished off straight set triumphs on courts one and six, retaking a 3-2 advantage. Sude was overpowered by No. 21 Soren Hess-Olesen, 6-3, 6-4, and Haworth had his five-match winning streak snapped by Clement Homs in the junior's 6-3, 6-3 defeat.
With a 4-2 lead in the third set, Bohrnstedt came close to providing a comeback victory, but was unable to extend the match, as Texas' Nick Naumann won four consecutive games en route to a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 final. The Cowboys were able to tack on an extra point after Sebastian Sachs took down No. 34 Lloyd Glasspool, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-1, sealing a 4-3 final in favor of the Longhorns.
Oklahoma State will end its weekend set on Monday with a 10 a.m. matchup against Texas A&M-Corpus Cristi at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. For more updates and information, follow @CowboyTennis on Twitter.
