STILLWATER, Okla. -
The No. 18 Oklahoma State men's tennis team won its third and fourth consecutive matches without conceding a point on Thursday in the team's doubleheader sweep over Nebraska-Omaha and Lamar at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
The Cowboys' (15-2) used the doubleheader to extend its shutout streak to its longest run since the 1984 Cowboy Tennis squad ran off four consecutive shutouts over Wisconsin, Midland JC, Cooke County and East Central.
Thursday's set of sweeps was aided by the Cowboys' strength from the bottom of its singles lineup and the first career victories from two first-time doubles squads. After losing their first two matches together earlier in the season, Lucas Gerch and Sebastian Sachs paired up to defeat UNO's Dockery/McKnight at the No. 1 spot, while Nicolai Ferrigno and Chris Haworth downed Mercier/McManus, 8-1.
In the back end of the doubleheader, OSU earned the doubles point with victories from two of the team's more familiar doubles tandems. Jakob Sude and Arjun Kadhe pushed their cooperative record to 4-0 in an 8-3 romp over Lamar's Feucht/Laitinen, and Haworth/Bohrnstedt claimed a victory at No. 3 over Hoogenboezem/McMullan.
In singles play, the primary source of the Cowboys' firepower came from Nos. 3 and 4, as Kadhe, Bohrnstedt, Ferrigno and Haworth filled the third and fourth spots with victories in both of Thursday's matches. Haworth then doubled up his win total on the day by taking down Lamar's Steven McMullan at No. 6, 6-0, 6-1, and Nathan Roper earned his second collegiate dual match victory in a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over UNO's Colin Buckley.
Oklahoma State will attempt to improve its four-match winning streak on Monday, as the Cowboys travel to Manoa, Hawai'I, to take on San Francisco and host Hawai'i. For more updates and information, follow @CowboyTennis on Twitter.
