FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -
The No. 25 Oklahoma State men's tennis team completed the first half of its weekend road set on Saturday with a 5-2 win over No. 68 Arkansas at the George Billingsley Tennis Center.
OSU (10-0) scraped away a narrow victory from the Razorbacks despite trailing multiple times throughout the tightly contested match.
Arkansas (6-6) jumped out to its first lead after taking down both Cowboy Tennis doubles squads at Nos. 1 and 2. Sachs/Sude moved back to the top spot after appearing at No. 2 against Wichita State, but were unable to match Arkansas' Jeske/Nott, who grabbed an 8-6 triumph.
The 38th-ranked pair of Brady Bohrnstedt and Arjun Kadhe was also unable to tame its opponent, as the Cowboys' ranked doubles tandem suffered its first defeat of the year in an 8-3 setback from Fess/Thomason. The doubles result ended in an OSU loss for only the second time in 2014.
In singles play, Sebastian Sachs used a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set victory to tie the match up at one, only to see Arkansas regain the lead with Juan Marino's 6-2, 6-4 win over Chris Haworth at No. 6.
The back-and-forth continued, however, as Kadhe rebounded from his first loss of the season last Thursday by defeating Arkansas' Hall Fess, 6-3, 7-5. Kadhe's win was his team-leading seventh of the year, and knotted the match up at two.
Oklahoma State then took its first lead of the match when No. 70 Jakob Sude clawed back from a first set defeat to overpower Mike Nott, 6-7(2), 6-1, 6-4. The German's win over Arkansas' top singles player pushed his individual record to 5-0 and gave the Cowboys a pivotal third point.
Almost simultaneously, Bohrnstedt recorded a comeback victory of his own at No. 5 to clinch the match and increase the team's season win total to double digits. The 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory from the Cowboy senior was his third three-set victory in his last five matches.
Lucas Gerch topped off the team victory with an exciting finishing on court four, as the freshman conquered Jovan Parlic with a 7-2 tiebreaker victory in the match's decisive third set.
The Cowboys will look to tack on another win to the team's record start tomorrow when they finish weekend at No. 32 Tulsa's Case Tennis Center. First serve will take place at 2 p.m. For more updates and information, follow @CowboyTennis on Twitter.
