Cowboys Upend No. 34 Minnesota in Upset Victory

STILLWATER, Okla. -

Oklahoma State's men's tennis team topped off a perfect weekend at the new Greenwood Tennis Center on Sunday with a 4-1 upset win over 34^th-ranked Minnesota.

"It was a great win for us, especially with it being at home and in front of a great crowd," Head Coach Jay Udwadia said. "It's the kind of win that you hope can set a tone for the rest of the season."

After going a perfect 4-0 on Friday, the Cowboys' trio of doubles tandems remained undefeated with wins at Nos. 2 and 3, awarding the team with the doubles point. Matt Campbell and Lucas Gerch took home their second win of the year, and Brady Bohrnstedt and Arjun Kadhe defeated Minnesota's Ramirez/Sydow, 6-2.

Jakob Sude and Sebastian Sachs were also on the verge of toppling Minnesota's 47^th-ranked doubles combination of Mathieu Froment and Jack Hamburg, but the match ended unfinished with the German duo sitting one point short of victory.

Minnesota opened singles play with a win at No. 6 singles to tie the score at one, but Bohrnstedt's 6-1, 6-2 victory on Court 5 was the perfect answer for the Cowboys. Sude followed suit with a win, and Kadhe sealed the upset seconds later in a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Jack Hamburg.

Sude's straight-sets victory at No. 1 came against Leandro Toledo, ranked No. 54 in the country in this year's ITA Preseason Men's Singles Rankings. The win was Sude's first of the year after not appearing in singles play on Friday.

The team victory marks the highest-ranked opponent OSU (3-0) has beat since 2010, when the Cowboys topped No. 34 Tulsa.

After only defeating one ranked opponent last season, Oklahoma State will look to top that mark next Friday, Jan. 24, when it welcomes No. 66 East Tennessee State to Stillwater for a 5 p.m. matchup at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
