Cowgirl Tennis Resumes Tournament Action in Kansas City

The Oklahoma State women's tennis team continued competition at the Missouri Invitational on Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.
The Cowgirls started the day strong by sweeping Nebraska in doubles play. Cowgirls Kanyapat Narattana and Carla Tur Mari picked up their third win of the weekend when they downed Nebraska's Lisa Andersson and Mary Hannah, 8-2. Oklahoma State's Karyn Guttormsen and Maria Alvarez defeated Brittany Brewster and Maggie Lehmicke, 8-3. Freshmen Megan McCray and Morgan McCray were also victorious in their first match of the day, defeating Maike Zeppernick and Hannah Sulz, 8-5, to grab their first doubles win of the tournament.
The Cowgirls would take on Princeton for the second time this weekend in the following round of doubles competition. Oklahoma State's Karyn Guttormsen and Maria Alvarez won a tight tiebreaker to knock off Emily Hahn and Alanna Wolff, 8-7 (8-6). Narattana and Tur Mari took their first loss of the weekend in a tough 8-6 match against Princeton's Katherine Flannigan and Dorothy Tang.
Oklahoma State faced Missouri in Saturday's singles competition. Cowgirl Megan McCray won a third set tiebreaker to knock off No. 72 Cierra Gaytan-Leach, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. Karyn Guttormsen was the only other Cowgirl to win her singles match on Saturday, defeating Missouri's Elisha Gabb, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-7. Freshman Carla Tur Mari took the second set in her match to push her opponent to a third set tiebreaker, but came up just short, falling to Alex Clark of Missouri, 7-6, 5-7, 10-7.
The Cowgirls will look to finish the Missouri Invitational strong on Sunday. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
