September 14, 2013 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
Sept. 14, 2013
LEXINGTON, Ky -
David Osborn and Samantha Nightingale each earned sixth place in their respective races to lead the Oklahoma State cross country teams at the Bluegrass Invitational, in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday.
On the men's side, the Cowboys picked up four individual top-10 finishes and took second as a team, right behind Eastern Kentucky. Osborn (24:04.71) took sixth, Chad Noelle (24:11.16) finished right behind him in seventh, Brian Gohlke (24:13.92) took ninth and Neal Smith (24:14.44) finished 10th. All seven Cowboy runners finished in the top 28.
The Cowgirls started toward the back of the pack, but made a late charge to finish fourth as a team. OSU earned top-10 finishes from Nightingale (sixth) and Hurricane Festival champion Adela Hofmannova (eighth). The women also landed all seven runners in the top 28.
"I'm proud of the way we competed," OSU coach Dave Smith said. "Eastern Kentucky has a great team. I think they're a top-10 team. We were able to get some of our guys who will be competing for a national team spot some good experience today. Once we get to full strength, I'm sure we will be in a good shape. On the women's side, we started in the back and made a late charge. I was happy with Samantha Nightingale and Adela Hofmannova for fighting their way up to sixth and eighth place. I'm proud of the way we ran today."
OSU cross country will be back in action on Sept. 28, when they come home to Stillwater to host the 76th annual Cowboy Jamboree.
